At first, it truly sounded ridiculous: Voting in a union means you no longer have a voice?? I thought their whole point was to GIVE you a voice??
Well, let's look at the FACTS:
1. In being a union member (which will be a condition of your employment should TWU be voted in; in other words, NOT optional), you are required to pay dues and abide by all National and Local Constitution rules. (Do you know what they are? Do you have time to read hundreds of pages.....?)
2. National Constitution provisions include the following (emphasis added):
ARTICLE XIX - Discipline
SECTION 5. The following enumerated acts are set forth as typifying conduct unbecoming a member of the Union. This enumeration shall not be construed to exclude from disciplinary action other forms of unbecoming conduct.
(c) Advocating or attempting to bring about the withdrawal or disaffiliation from the International Union of any Local Union or any member or group of members;
ARTICLE XX - Trial of Members
SECTION 1. In the event that the Local Executive Board decides that the charges warrant a trial, the Local Executive Board shall elect a Trial Committee of three members in good standing and shall designate a member in good standing to present the charges before the Trial Committee.
3. To add insult to injury, the following is also included (emphasis added):
SECTION 11. A member who is under suspension from membership, including a temporary suspension pending hearing or trial, shall be required to pay all dues during the period of suspension.
So, let's summarize:
>You are required to follow all TWU rules, both nationally and locally.
>If you're unhappy with the way TWU operates, you forfeit your right to free speech because in speaking out, you are threatening the union.
>If you speak out against the union (or stop paying dues), you can and will be pursued for any back dues.
>If you speak out against the union, you are in violation of the National Constitution of TWU and you can and will be terminated from your job.
Sound crazy? We think so, too.
But you can see very clearly HERE that very real people have already been pursued, fired, fined, and dragged through the mud by TWU.
So don't just vote NO for yourself and your Teammates. Vote NO for Barbara, Chuck, Bob, Sherilyn, Kenyon and Glenn.
And it's another reason you MUST inform your Teammates to VOTE NO on TWU.
You're NOT Alone

Despite what you may have heard, there are LOTS of ITMs who are voting NO. A 59% MAJORITY voted NO last time!
Whether you feel that we don't need a union at all, or you feel that we're better off researching other options (other unions, or an in-house/independent association), WE are your Fellow ITMs who will vote NO to TWU.
What do they make? Here's where some of YOUR dues would go, if we voted TWU in as our third party representatives:
