WHY AREN'T WOMEN REPRESENTED AT THE TOP TIERS OF TWU LEADERSHIP?
The first woman to appear on the payroll at TWU International, in order of annual compensation, is #23! Why is that??
This is a question which NO ONE has yet addressed, instead deflecting into a tangent about nitpicking the amount of money TWU leadership makes vs. how much VX leadership makes. It's typical, but still quite sad.
These are facts. The first woman on payroll at TWU International is #23. No one has explained why.
Possibilities: The union is a "good old boys' club", with old-fashioned views of women and their place in leadership roles.
Or, those who voted the top leaders in were mainly men, who feel that other men are more suited to the tasks for those positions.
Or, women were discouraged in some way from applying for the top leadership positions; favor may have been given to men already within the top ranks of the TWU.
Until the question is directly answered, we can only specuate. But this one fact, along with many others on this site, do leave one wondering whether such an
organization is fit to represent ALL OF US here at Virgin America.
WHY IS TWU FUNDING A WEBSITE SLANDERING Allegiant Airlines AND ATTEMPTING TO DISSUADE PEOPLE FROM FLYING ON THEM, WHEN THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE REPRESENTING ALLEGIANT'S FLIGHT ATTENDANTS?
A website called "Will Allegiant Be There?" is up and running, and it's basically telling people why they shouldn't fly Allegiant. It accuses them of delays, lying about pricing tickets, and even
accuses the company of "cutting integrity and service".
The website is full of cheapshots and accusations, clearly trying to bash on Allegiant and get people not to fly them.
So let's do some basic economics math: If less people fly Allegiant, the company loses money. If the company loses money, they can't offer better pay, benefits or perks to their employees (including flight attendants). If the company continues not to do well, it will go bankrupt. If it goes bankrupt, all of the employees will be out of work.
It's clear that the website is run by the TWU employee whose title is "IT Support Specialist" for TWU International.
SO, because TWU hasn't been able to successfully negotiate a contract for Allegiant flight attendants, they're funding a campaign to hurt the airline.
Seem like a good way to get things done??

FROM ERIK KRUSE:
-Why can't I OPT OUT of a union? If this is voted in and I don't want to be part of it, can't I opt out as is done in Australia and other countries?
-Who has been fired from Virgin America "on a whim"?
-When were we told by Virgin America a definite date by which we would have part-time flying available? When were we expressly promised incredible flexibility?
-Why does a union which tried to get our permits to fly taken away just two years ago now want to represent us??
NONE of these questions has been addressed or answered on other forums by those who favor third party representation. Just wanted to make this observation for all of you to see.
You're NOT Alone
Don't be afraid to speak up! And don't be ashamed to LOVE your Airline - after all, they pay your paycheck every month and you've got amazing, passionate, fun coworkers. They put their full faith in YOU when they hired you! No job is perfect, and Virgin America isn't either.
Despite what you may have heard, there are LOTS of ITMs who are voting NO. A 59% MAJORITY voted NO last time!
Whether you feel that we don't need a union at all, or you feel that we're better off researching other options (other unions, or an in-house/independent association), WE are your Fellow ITMs who will vote NO to TWU.
What do they make? Here's where some of YOUR dues would go, if we voted TWU in as our third party representatives:
